Public Water Supplier Consumer Confidence Reports, Changes are Coming

Each year community water systems are required to issue Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR) to customers. Changes will be coming to the annual CCR requirements. The American Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) signed in October 2018 included the following about CCRs:

1. Requires revisions to increase the readability, clarity, and understandability of the information presented in the CCRs

2. Requires revisions to increase the accuracy of information presented, and risk communication, in consumer confidence reports

3. Requires community water systems serving more than 10,000 persons to provide customers with CCRs twice a year

The AWIA gives the EPA a couple of years to incorporate these changes, so this does not impact the CCR you are working on in 2019 but will impact you next year or the year after that. Refer to the EPA's website for the current CCR requirements: https://www.epa.gov/ccr

In the meantime, did you know that electronic posting of your annual CCR is allowed which can help reduce your printing and mailing costs along with helping the environment by generating less waste? The EPA and MassDEP allow you to mail a notice to your customers with a direct website link (URL) to your CCR which can be posted on your website. Printed copies still need to be made available at public places along with multiple copies being delivered to single-bill addresses serving several persons.

The electronic delivery option is a good way to update or enhance your CCR without adding to your printing costs.

ResilientCE is available to work with you to revise your CCR, contact us to find out more.
